What about court?
If the Police investigation results in charges being made, the case will go to court. If the suspect pleads guilty, they will be sentenced and you will never be required at court. However, if there is a trial, you will be required to attend. You do not need to stay for the entire trial, which often take several days. There are various special measures which can be put in place to make giving evidence easier for you. These include screens around you in court, and, for younger/ more vulnerable witnesses, live links so they don’t even have to go into the courtroom.
If you are required to attend court, we can ensure you are referred to the Independant Sexual Violence Advisors, who can take you around an empty court room prior to the trial, and accompany you on the day(s) you need to attend.
