REMEMBER You’re in control. We’re here to support you.

Visiting a Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC) can feel overwhelming. Below is some information which has been designed to help you understand what happens during a visit, so you can make informed choices at every step.

🌼 Before You Arrive

  • You can call us anytime to ask questions or book an appointment. We also offer all clients a face to face video call (you can choose not to show your face) with a crisis worker to reassure you, explain the process and put you at ease.
  • You don’t need to report to the police to access our services.
  • You’re welcome to bring someone with you for support.
  • Please do not wash, shower or bath, brush teeth, use mouth wash or change clothes before attending. Do not worry if you have, we can still work alongside you in your individual circumstances.

🚪 When You Arrive

  • A friendly crisis worker will greet you and explain your options.
  • You’ll be offered a private, calm space to talk.
  • Everything you share is confidential unless you choose otherwise.

🧪 Forensic Examination (Optional)

  • You can choose to complete a forensic examination with one of our specially trained sexual offence examiner.
  • You can stop or pause at any time.
  • We’ll explain each step and ask for your consent before anything happens.

💬 Aftercare and Support

  • We’ll talk through next steps, including emotional support and referrals.
  • You’ll receive information to take away, and we’ll maintain contact if you’d like.
